Car prices have skyrocketed, my dear petrolheads. It's a sad state of affairs, really. The average new car will set you back a mind-boggling $47,148, and even used cars are going for insane prices. This begs the question: will car prices ever come back down, or are cheap cars just gone forever? Today, we delve into this conundrum on Blinker Fluid, the channel that cuts through the noise and gets to the heart of the matter.

In the good old days, making affordable cars was the norm. Japan, bless their souls, built their entire business model around cheap cars for the masses. But alas, those days are long gone. You see, the industry now categorizes an expensive car as anything under $20,000. Can you believe it? Back in the day, there were plenty of these so-called "cheap" cars. But now, they're as rare as a unicorn sighting.

So, why don't manufacturers want us to have cheap cars? Well, my friends, it all comes down to one thing: money. They simply won't make as much of it if you and I opt for the more affordable options. Cars these days last a lifetime, practically. Gone are the days when you weren't cool if your car was more than three years old. Nowadays, CEOs are cruising around in vehicles that are a decade old. Can you imagine? It's madness!

But that's not all. Car technology has plateaued. The difference between a new car and one from 2012 is minimal, my dear viewers. And if you don't fancy your outdated infotainment system, fear not! For a few hundred bucks, you can upgrade to Apple CarPlay and have a system that puts the latest models to shame. So, why bother with a new car when you can modify a used one to your heart's content?

And here's the kicker: used cars are simply better. Let's be honest, would you rather have a brand-spanking-new Mitsubishi Mirage or a 2015 Honda Civic SI? I think the answer is quite clear. The Civic SI offers more power, better build quality, and an aftermarket support system that will make your head spin. Plus, it's cheaper! Who in their right mind would choose the Mirage over the Civic SI? Not many, my friends.

But here's the rub: manufacturers don't give a damn about used car buyers. When you buy a used car, they don't see a single penny. Surprise, surprise! So, why would they bother making cheap new cars when they won't sell many and the profit margins are slim? It's simple economics, my friends. They're in the business of making money, not catering to the needs of us mere mortals.

But it doesn't end there, my dear viewers. Oh no, there's more bad news to come. Brace yourselves. The sad truth is that only the wealthy can afford a brand new car these days. Think about it, the average price is $47,000! And that's just the average. Some cars are being sold for over $47,000, with monthly payments exceeding $700. It's mind-blowing! With stagnant wages, rising inflation, and an uncertain economic climate, there's little incentive for younger folks to even consider buying a new car.

And let's not forget the growing desire for electric vehicles. While they may be the future, they certainly aren't cheap. In fact, they're becoming more expensive by the day. It's a sad state of affairs, my friends. The price of new cars is only going to get worse, I'm afraid. It's a bleak outlook, but we must face the reality of the situation.
