The Volkswagen T-Rock, a car that's trying a bit too hard to be fun and cool, has surprisingly become a hit in the UK with over 112,000 units sold in just 6 years. Despite its slightly dull demeanor, the T-Rock boasts a solid build quality and an appealing design, featuring bold creases, a spoiler, and a lifted stance that gives it an off-road SUV look. However, the quad tailpipes are nothing but a facade, as they're completely fake, a fact revealed by the discerning eyes at carwow.
Behind the wheel, the T-Rock impresses with its handling, thanks to its stiffer suspension and Adaptive chassis control. The car feels light and responsive, with natural controls and strong brakes that offer a confident driving experience. Its higher ground clearance not only makes it easier to get in and out of but also provides a more spacious feel inside compared to traditional hatchbacks. The compact dimensions and good visibility of the T-Rock make it a breeze to navigate through city streets, with a tight turning circle that comes in handy for tricky maneuvers.
While the T-Rock comes well-equipped with features like digital climate control, touch screen, and Apple CarPlay, its price can climb quite steeply with added options, reaching up to £41,180. Performance-wise, the 1.5L turbo petrol engine may leave something to be desired, with delays in acceleration and a noisy engine under hard throttle. The automatic gearbox can struggle to keep up, especially in situations requiring quick bursts of speed. In contrast, the 2.0L diesel version offers better performance and fuel efficiency, making it a more compelling choice for enthusiasts looking for a bit more oomph from their T-Rock.
