In this episode, Savagegeese takes a closer look at the Subaru Sutera, a vehicle closely related to the Toyota BZ 4X. This electric car, born from the collaboration between Toyota and Subaru, seems to bear more resemblance to its Toyota counterpart than expected. From the infotainment system to safety features, the Sutera feels like a Toyota in a Subaru shell. While the interior layout is practical and well-organized, it lacks certain features like a frunk and an opening roof, which might disappoint some potential buyers.
Under the hood, the Subaru Sutera packs a punch with its symmetrical electric motors, delivering a respectable 259 ft-lbs of torque and under 200 miles of real-world range. The inclusion of X mode for off-road adventures and a lift for increased ground clearance sets it apart from the BZ 4X. However, charging speeds, though improved, still fall short compared to rivals like the Ionic 5. On the road, the Sutera offers a decent driving experience, with a quiet and refined ride typical of midsize CUVs.
Despite its merits, the Subaru Sutera faces stiff competition in a market flooded with more advanced and efficient electric vehicles. While it may appeal to budget-conscious consumers looking for a good lease deal, its shortcomings in charging speed and range efficiency cannot be ignored. In a world where competitors offer superior technology and performance, the Sutera struggles to make a lasting impression.
