Back in the hallowed grounds of the Hot Rod Garage Shop, the team reunites with the legendary Stubby Bob, a 1950 Ford F6 that has become synonymous with defying gravity through epic wheelies. This iconic Roadkill project, born from a humble dump truck, now boasts a blown big block Chevy engine that propels it to perform jaw-dropping stunts like rubbing its trailer hitch against the ground. The crew's ambition to take Stubby Bob to Yuma, Arizona, for sand drags hits a roadblock as the truck faces a myriad of issues on the highway, from leaks to overheating and a bent axle. Undeterred, they return to the shop with a mission: to fine-tune this beast for the ultimate showdown in the desert.
The team dives headfirst into the nitty-gritty of Stubby Bob's mechanics, tackling challenges like a cracked transmission housing and fine-tuning the V Drive for optimal performance on the highway. With a stroke of genius, they implement a water cooling system to combat overheating, ensuring that Stubby Bob remains cool under pressure during its high-octane adventures. Steering issues are also addressed with precision, as the crew crafts an axle truss to fortify against bending and reworks the steering linkage to eliminate bump steer, paving the way for smoother handling on the road ahead.
In a display of ingenuity and resourcefulness, the team devises unconventional solutions to mechanical hiccups, from repairing a broken u-joint with spare coins to salvaging parts from a spare drive shaft to keep Stubby Bob rolling. As they embark on a test drive to Dome Valley Raceway, anticipation hangs thick in the air, with the promise of dirt drag racing and a surprise revelation awaiting Fryberger. The stage is set for a showdown of epic proportions as Stubby Bob gears up to unleash its full potential on the unforgiving terrain, a testament to the indomitable spirit of automotive innovation and the thrill of pushing machines to their limits.
