In this thrilling episode of Mat Armstrong's YouTube channel, he takes on the Herculean task of fixing his wrecked McLaren 720s. With the help of none other than Richard Hammond himself, Mat embarks on a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. McLaren initially deemed the carbon tub unfixable, forcing Mat to shell out a hefty £52,000 for a secondhand tub. But that was just the beginning.
The team faced the daunting task of dismantling the entire car, stripping it down to its bare bones. Piece by piece, they meticulously removed the interior, center console, and dashboard, carefully disconnecting the intricate wiring loom. However, the road to restoration was not without its obstacles. The elusive heater box proved to be a formidable foe, requiring them to disassemble the front of the car for access.
Undeterred, Mat and his team pressed on, removing the under tray and tackling the lower wiring loom. With each challenge conquered, they inched closer to their goal. The rear frame was bolted onto the new tub, signaling a major milestone in the reconstruction process. The wiring was skillfully fitted into the car, with Mat's keen eye ensuring that each wire found its rightful place.
But the journey was not without its doubts. Uncertainty loomed as they grappled with the intricacies of the wiring loom routing. Would a slight difference in placement lead to bigger issues down the line? Only time would tell. Nevertheless, the team soldiered on, installing the massive wire, cooling and air lines, and the crucial oil and petrol tanks.
With each component falling into place, Mat's optimism grew. The car was slowly coming back to life, and the thrill of the rebuild was palpable. Though challenges still lay ahead, the progress made thus far was a testament to Mat's determination and the unwavering support of his team. The finish line was in sight, and the McLaren 720s would soon roar back to life, ready to conquer the roads once again.
