In the realm of hypercars, Bugatti has unleashed the Tourbillon, a beast with a 1800 PS V16 engine that screams power. This machine, priced at a whopping 3.8 million euros, is a departure from its predecessors, shedding weight and embracing a new design philosophy. The sound of the V16 engine is hauntingly beautiful, reminiscent of the iconic BRM Grand Prix car from the 1950s. With Cosworth's touch, this engine is a masterpiece, revving up to 9,000 RPM and lighter than the previous W16 powerhouse.
Bugatti's Director of Design, Frank Heyl, delves into the aerodynamic marvel that is the Tourbillon, drawing inspiration from Bugatti's historic models like the Type 57 SC and Royale Type 41. The car's sleek design, low height, and wide wheels not only make it a visual stunner but also enhance its aerodynamic efficiency. The horseshoe grille, a Bugatti signature, serves as both a crash structure and an aerodynamic element, showcasing the brand's attention to detail and performance. The single-piece front clamshell and thin body panels contribute to the car's lightweight construction, ensuring agility and speed on the road.
Under the hood, the Tourbillon boasts a suspension system featuring 3D printed aluminum parts, reducing weight by a significant 45% compared to traditional steel components. Custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, developed specifically for this model, provide the necessary grip and performance. The rear of the car reveals the engine bay without a glass cover, displaying the massive throttle bodies in aluminum cages for safety and style. The aerodynamic prowess of the Tourbillon is further highlighted by its diffuser design, allowing the car to maintain stability at speeds exceeding 400 km/h without the need for a wing. The structural fins at the rear, inspired by Formula 1 technology, ensure energy absorption in case of a crash, showcasing Bugatti's commitment to safety and innovation in the hypercar domain.
