Volvo, the Swedish car manufacturer known for its safety features, has been building the Cross Country for several decades. In this video from The Fast Lane Car, the team puts the all-wheel drive capability of the Volvo V90 Cross Country to the test. They intentionally get the car stuck in rollers as part of the TFL Slip Test to see how the all-wheel drive system performs in challenging conditions. The car impressively pulls through without any slipping, showcasing the effectiveness of its rear wheels.
Under the hood, the Volvo V90 Cross Country packs a punch with a 2.0L turbocharged and E-charged 4-cylinder engine, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a mild hybrid system. This powertrain delivers a total system output of 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The team also highlights the vehicle's spacious and luxurious interior, featuring beautiful perforated leather seats, open poure wood accents, and a 12.3-inch vertically mounted screen with Wireless Apple CarPlay.
Moving on to the slip tests, the team demonstrates the rear wheel slip and diagonal slip tests. The Volvo V90 Cross Country handles these challenging scenarios with ease, thanks to its traction control system. The vehicle smoothly transfers wheel speed and torque, providing a refined and consistent performance. However, the team notes that the car could benefit from more aggressive braking to enhance its off-road capabilities.
Taking the Volvo V90 Cross Country off-road, the team explores the OnX Off-Road pit course. While the car performs well, they express their desire for a more rugged version of the vehicle, with features like knobbly tires and vinyl floors. They compare it to the Land Rover Defender, which they believe strikes a better balance between luxury and off-road prowess.
Overall, the team is impressed with the Volvo V90 Cross Country's all-wheel drive system and its smooth and deliberate performance. They suggest that with some modifications and better tires, the car could become a formidable off-road companion.
