In this episode of Larry Chen's YouTube channel, we are introduced to a truly unconventional Time Attack car, the Datsun 1600 or 510. Now, this car has undergone quite the transformation over the years, as the team behind it has been working tirelessly to make it look and perform like a proper Time Attack machine. But here's the thing, this car, well, it's square. Yes, you heard that right. They've tried to make a brick aerodynamic. It's a bold move, to say the least.

Now, Larry Chen, the man behind the channel, has a special fondness for Datsuns, although his main expertise lies in brakes. But let's get back to the car. The Datsun 510, or as it was known in Australia, the 1600, was quite popular back in the day. It was a common sight on the roads and had a strong presence in rallying. However, it didn't quite make waves in circuit racing. Nevertheless, over time, these cars became more expensive and harder to find.

Now, let's talk about the heart of this beast, the motor package. It's equipped with an SR20 turbo engine, a 2-liter powerhouse that boasts an airr tur, full race manifold, and a 7670 plasma man intercooler. It runs on M ECU and is paired with a Sam Sona sequential gearbox. This combination produces around 360 Kow or just under 500 horsepower. Impressive, isn't it? And here's the kicker, there are actually quite a few 510s out there with sequential gearboxes. Who knew?

To make this square beauty more aerodynamic, the team has added a splitter, custom over fenders, side skirts, and, of course, a mandatory wing. They've tried to channel the air around the front of the car and out of the back of the wheel. The car still retains its stock glass windows in the back, but the doors have been replaced with lightweight fiberglass ones. And here's a fun fact, the sedan version of the 510 is actually more popular in Australia than the two-door variant. It seems the Aussies have a thing for four doors.

Now, let's take a closer look at the interior of this magnificent machine. It features a carbon dash, which adds a touch of modernity to the classic design. The seats have been upgraded to Recaro ones, and the rear seat has been re-trimmed to match. The car also boasts a digital dash, giving it a futuristic feel. And let's not forget the air jacks, a recent addition that makes lifting the car a breeze. It's always nice to see a car that not only performs well but also looks the part.

All in all, Larry Chen's Datsun 510 is a true testament to the passion and dedication of its owners. They've taken a square brick and turned it into a formidable Time Attack car. It may not be the most conventional choice, but it's certainly one that stands out from the crowd. And that's what makes it so special.
