The Legendary Lancia Delta S4 Stradale: A Limited Edition Rallying Gem

Back in 1985, Lancia was in a bit of a pickle. Rallying was all the rage, but they were losing. So, they needed to come up with something special to compete. Enter the Delta S4 Stradale. This car was a beast, let me tell you. Four-wheel drive, turbocharging, and supercharging all in one. It was like a mad scientist's experiment gone right.
Now, this car wasn't your ordinary run-of-the-mill production car. Oh no, it was a limited edition homologation special. Only about 70 or 80 were ever made, which is a shame because they were absolute monsters on the road. The engine was a small 1,759 CC, but with the twin charging, it churned out a whopping 300 brake horsepower. That's more power than you could shake a stick at.
And let's talk about the design. The clamshell doors on this thing were a sight to behold. They opened up like a Faberge egg, revealing the heart of the beast underneath. It had a space frame chassis and a unique combination of polyester resin and carbon fiber Kevlar for the clams. It was a work of art, both inside and out.
But here's the kicker. Despite all its awesomeness, the Delta S4 Stradale didn't sell like hotcakes. Maybe it was the hefty price tag, or maybe the rally world had moved on too quickly. Either way, it's a shame because this car was a true gem. It may not have been the prettiest, but it was certainly the most extraordinary.
