In a tale of automotive misfortune, The Fast Lane Car recounts their ill-fated encounter with the Candy K27. This electric car, which had undergone EPA certification for range and efficiency, turned out to be a colossal disappointment. With a price tag of $112,000 (before the tax credit), the team expected a vehicle that would deliver on its promises. Alas, fate had other plans.
From the moment they set eyes on the Candy K27 at an auction, doubts began to creep in. It had been lurking in a corner, overlooked and unloved. Tommy, with his keen eye, recognized it for what it was: trouble. Yet, against all reason, they decided to take the plunge and embark on a series documenting their ownership experience. Little did they know the rollercoaster ride that awaited them.
The problems began to surface almost immediately. The EPA shattered their hopes by revealing that the car's range was a mere 59 miles, far from the promised 100 miles. With a 30-mile journey back to the office, anxiety set in. Would they even make it? As luck would have it, they didn't. The Candy K27 broke down just a mile away, leaving them stranded and bewildered.
But the troubles didn't end there. The car's computer system proved to be utterly unreliable, providing inaccurate readings on the remaining distance. It was a guessing game, and they often found themselves on the losing end. And then there was the issue of the wet car wash incident, which left the Candy K27 in a sorry state. It seemed that every turn brought a new problem, a new setback.
Despite their best efforts to make the most of the situation, the team ultimately had to face the harsh reality. They sold the Candy K27 for a meager $3,000, a fraction of its original price. The loss, a staggering $2,500, was a bitter pill to swallow. But as they bid farewell to the troublesome car, they couldn't help but reflect on the journey they had undertaken. It was a tale of hope, disappointment, and resilience in the face of adversity. And although the Candy K27 had proven to be a lemon, it had certainly provided them with a story to tell.
