In a dramatic turn of events, TJ Hunt's Supra purchase from Copart turned into a financial nightmare when he uncovered a damaged engine and missing parts, resulting in a staggering $25,000 loss. The decision loomed large: sell the car or embark on a bold restoration mission. With a new 2JZ engine sourced, attention shifted to enhancing the Supra's appearance using a collection of parts already in TJ's possession. The new Supra saw a striking transformation with a Ridox bumper, Veilside fenders and hood, S2 headlights, and more, while the old Supra was slated for a more subdued OEM look.
Performance upgrades took center stage as Radium Engineering stepped in for a fueling system overhaul, featuring two 450 pumps to support increased horsepower. Opting for a Tremi T56 transmission over the costly V160, TJ Hunt defended the decision, highlighting the T56's affordability and superior driving feel. Amid challenges converting the Supra from automatic to manual, a new bell housing, clutch setup, and conversion kit were essential components. The Jay-Z engine received a powerful Rtech manifold, Howtech R35 coils, and ID 1300 injectors for optimal performance.
The team faced a series of hurdles during the meticulous installation process, ensuring the engine and transmission fit seamlessly into the Supra. A drive shaft upgrade and radiator system enhancement were pivotal for maintaining efficiency and power delivery. TJ Hunt showcased his expertise in repairing and upgrading Veilside parts using fiberglass repair techniques, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in automotive restoration. The team's participation in the upcoming LZ World Tour in Bakersfield, California was announced, promising an exciting showcase of their skill and dedication to automotive craftsmanship.
