In this episode of StanceWorks, the guys are back in the shop and ready to tackle their E30 project. With only a limited amount of time before the arrival of the Ferrari, they are determined to complete the entire E30 build. The previous episode saw them transforming the car's appearance with new headlights, front grills, front valance, and Euro bumpers. But here's where things get interesting. Believe it or not, there are two white early model E30 coupes being built side by side on this channel. StanceWorks' car is a tribute to their late friend Cory Hutcherson's car. In a surprising turn of events, Cory's car was brought to California and revived after being parked since his funeral. The team replaced the wiring and cooling system to get it back on the road. Now that Cory's car is up and running, they can refocus their attention on StanceWorks' tribute build.

The first step in the project is to remove the original 2.7L M20 engine and automatic transmission from the car. This engine may sound impressive, but it only produces a measly 120 horsepower. So, the team has big plans to replace it with something more powerful. They acquired a donor car with a 2.5L M20 engine and an 885 cylinder head, which offers more horsepower and a higher redline. Initially, their plan was to simply swap the driveline from the donor car into their white car, but then they stumbled upon an opportunity and acquired an e36 M3 s52 engine. This new engine underwent a complete overhaul, making it even more exciting. With the original engine out, the team begins the process of draining all fluids and removing unnecessary parts.

One surprising discovery during the disassembly process is a universal oil drain plug, something they didn't even know existed. They take this as an opportunity to clean up the car and discard all the old junk that they won't be needing. Despite the extensive scope of the project, the team is determined to approach the disassembly process methodically, taking their time to ensure everything is done right. They encounter a few challenges along the way, such as a stripped transmission drain plug, but they find solutions and continue making progress. Finally, the old engine is ready to be bid farewell as it heads straight for the dumpster.

With the old engine out of the way, the team can now focus on the new s52 engine. This 3.2L inline-six engine, sourced from a 1998 BMW M3, has been well cared for and boasts a few leaks and dirt, but nothing that can't be fixed. FCP Euro has provided them with a range of parts to completely refurbish the engine, from seals and gaskets to tensioners and idlers. The team takes the time to clean up all the parts and ensure everything looks as good as new. They also install a new oil pan to address the sump problem and provide more ground clearance. With the engine looking pristine, it's time to seal it up and prepare it for installation.

Throughout the process, StanceWorks emphasizes that working on these engines is not overly complicated and can be learned by anyone. They even introduce their partnership with HP Academy, an online platform offering courses on various aspects of building cars and motorsports. The team is joined by their friend Chris, who is working on his own engine swap project. With the engine ready, the next step is to detail the car's exterior and engine bay. Gustavo from dbg detailing works his magic using G Technic products to decontaminate the paint and give the car a fresh look. The attention to detail is evident as they strive to make the engine bay as impressive as the rest of the car. With the engine bay looking pristine, the team is now eager to drop the new engine into the car and continue with the project.
