In this episode of M539 Restorations, the chaps introduce us to a rather intriguing project: Project SW and Yoki, a rare 2002 Alpina B10 V8s touring variant. Now, this car is a real gem, with only 43 of its kind ever made. It's been left to gather dust since 2016, but fear not, the team at M539 Restorations have taken it upon themselves to bring this neglected beauty back to life.
First impressions of the Alpina B10 are rather positive, I must say. Despite its long hiatus, it drives like a dream. The team has fitted brand new Continental SportContact 7 tires, and boy, does it make a difference. The car feels comfortable and tracks straight, a testament to its German engineering. However, there are a few niggles, such as a mushy brake pedal and a cracked windshield. But fear not, these are mere hiccups on the road to restoration.
The team wastes no time in getting down to business. They perform a thorough inspection and service, starting with an oil change using the appropriate 10W-60 oil. They also replace the fan clutch, a vital component that, if left unattended, could cause catastrophic damage to the engine. The coolant is checked, and although it's a bit cloudy, it's deemed acceptable for now. The team also replaces the fuel filter and inspects the car for any signs of rust, which they find in the usual places, but nothing too alarming.
With the service completed, it's time to hit the road. The team bids farewell to Marcus, the owner of the Alpina, who has been kind enough to provide them with a workshop to work on the car. They make a temporary fix for the broken window regulator using duct tape, which may not be the most elegant solution, but it gets the job done. With a full tank of fuel and a sense of adventure, the team sets off on their journey back home to Frankfurt, eager to put this neglected Alpina through its paces.
All in all, it's shaping up to be quite the restoration project. The Alpina B10 V8s is a rare gem that deserves a second chance, and the team at M539 Restorations is more than up to the task. Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of Project SW and Yoki. It's going to be one hell of a ride!
