Today on TheSmokingTire, we have a real beast of a car: the Cadillac CT5 Blackwing. But this isn't your ordinary Blackwing, oh no. This one has been modified by the mad geniuses at Hennessy to produce a mind-blowing 1,000 horsepower and 966 lb-ft of torque. Just let that sink in for a moment.
But it's not just the power that's got us excited. We're also thrilled because one of our favorite roads in the Angeles Forest, which has been closed for what feels like an eternity, is finally open again. And let me tell you, this road is perfect for unleashing the full potential of a car like the Blackwing.
Now, let's talk about the modifications that Hennessy has made to this car. They've gone all out, adding a high-flow supercharger, a custom grind HP camshaft, upgraded valve springs, and much more. They've basically rebuilt the entire engine, except for the bottom end. And the result is a car that can go from 0 to 60 in a full second less than the stock Blackwing, and shaves a full second off the quarter-mile time.
But here's the thing: this car comes with a manual gearbox. And while you might think that's the better choice, it turns out that the cammed-out engine actually affects the Cadillac's traffic assist feature, making it a bit tricky to take off smoothly from a stop. You either have to deal with some bucking and stalling or ride the clutch, both of which can be a bit embarrassing in a car that draws so much attention.
But once you're on the move, this car is an absolute rocket. The acceleration is mind-boggling, and the chassis, brakes, and suspension are all up to the task of handling all that power. It feels planted and composed, even when you're pushing it to the limit. And let's not forget about those carbon ceramic brakes, which are an absolute must-have when you're dealing with this kind of performance.
All in all, the Cadillac CT5 Blackwing with 1,000 horsepower is an absolute monster of a car. It's not without its quirks, but if you're willing to tame the beast, you'll be rewarded with an exhilarating driving experience like no other. Just be prepared to draw a crowd wherever you go, because this car is impossible to ignore.
