Luxurious Interior and Sporty Upgrades: BMW 1 Series Review

The new BMW 1 series, oh dear, where do I start? It boasts a posh interior with all the tech you'd expect, but hold on a minute, some materials feel cheaper than a knock-off Rolex. The M Sport upgrade adds a bit of spice with sportier features and seats that make you feel like you're in a racing car. The engine lineup has changed, no more diesel, just a 1.5L turbo petrol with a mild hybrid system or a beefier 2L turbo petrol in the M135i. It's not slow, but it's not exactly setting the road on fire either.
When it comes to looks, the 1 series is a bit of a mixed bag. The M Sport pack Pro adds some flair, but that fake diffuser at the back is a bit of a letdown. And why hide the exhaust pipe? We want to hear that engine roar, not play hide and seek. Inside, it's a tech fest with features like BMW's reversing assistant and a panoramic glass roof. But why, oh why, are there no physical buttons for the climate control? Fiddling with a touchscreen while driving is a recipe for disaster.
The driving experience is where the 1 series shines, with responsive steering and plenty of grip. The car feels sporty, especially with the M Sport suspension in the mix. But watch out for that turning circle, it's a bit wider than you'd expect, making tight maneuvers a bit of a challenge. And let's not forget the practicality - the boot space is compromised by the mild hybrid system, so pack light. Overall, the BMW 1 series is a premium small car that's worth a look if you can overlook its quirks and focus on the driving pleasure it offers.
