The Hyundai Palisade calligraphy is a luxury SUV that Hyundai believes can compete with the likes of German and Japanese brands. They've made some updates to the car, adding more technology, luxury features, and tweaking the styling. Now, let's talk about the looks. The rear of the car is fine, but the front end design is, well, not my cup of tea. It's got chrome everywhere, and it just doesn't do it for me. The Palisade's sister car, the Kia toride, built on the same platform, looks way better.
Moving on to the interior, Hyundai has added some comfort features across all three rows. The driver's seat and second row now have massaging features, and the second row also has headrests with movable wings for lateral head support. The seats are heated in all three rows, but only the first and second rows get cool ventilation. Inside, there are two 12.3-inch screens, one of which is a touch screen for media and navigation controls. The design of the screens and the surrounding piano black pinstripes feel a bit outdated, though. The car also comes with USB C ports, wireless car charging, premium audio, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Now, let's get to the performance. The Palisade calligraphy is powered by a 3.8L V6 engine with 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It's not going to win any races, but it's decent enough for everyday driving. The steering is artificially light, the brakes are mushy, and the suspension leaves something to be desired. In terms of acceleration, it can go from 0 to 60 in 6.9 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 15.1 seconds at a speed of 93.2 mph. It's not bad for a car of its size and engine.
Overall, the Palisade calligraphy is a luxury SUV that tries to be everything but ends up being mediocre. It's not sporty, it's not meant for off-roading, and while it has some luxury features, it falls short of being a true luxury vehicle. The car has its strengths, like its impressive list of features and its relatively affordable price of around $50,000, but it's a step backward for Hyundai compared to their other vehicles.
