In the realm of three-row crossovers, we have the all-new Honda Pilot and the equally fresh Mazda CX90. Now, the Honda Pilot, with its attempt at mimicking the current Accord and Civic, ends up looking like a baby Ford Explorer. It's not terrible, but it's just not memorable. Well, except for one thing that I can't seem to get out of my mind - that oddly shaped glass. It's as if Honda had a spare piece lying around and thought, "Why not stick it here?" It's a head-scratcher, to say the least.

On the other hand, Mazda is on a mission to transform itself into a premium brand, and they're doing it by adopting rear-wheel drive architecture. This not only improves proportions but also allows for a more visually appealing vehicle. And boy, does it work. The Mazda CX90 looks like something Jaguar would make, with its sleek design and attention to detail. It's a refreshing departure from the traditional three-row family crossover.

Inside the Honda Pilot, things feel a bit too familiar. It's supposed to be all-new, but it feels like I've seen it all before, about eight years ago. The infotainment system is a letdown, with its lack of user-friendliness. However, Honda does redeem itself with clever storage solutions and thoughtful features for families on the go. The Mazda CX90, on the other hand, exudes luxury. The gorgeous blonde wood, chrome accents, and cool fabric make it clear that this is a step above the rest. But there are some missteps, like the poorly designed shifter and the white interior that's just asking for trouble.

When it comes to driving dynamics, the Honda Pilot falls short. It's comfortable, yes, but it lacks the sharpness and agility that makes driving enjoyable. On the other hand, the Mazda CX90 is a revelation. With its turbocharged inline-six engine and rear-wheel drive platform, it's a joy to drive. It's so good, in fact, that if you were blindfolded and placed in the passenger seat, you might mistake it for a Jaguar. Mazda has truly outdone themselves in this department.

So, in the end, it's a tough call. The Honda Pilot excels in practicality and family-friendliness, while the Mazda CX90 delivers a thrilling driving experience and a touch of luxury. As an adult, I'm drawn to the Mazda, but as a parent, I have to consider the needs of my children. And that's why, in this comparison test, the all-new Honda Pilot takes the crown.
