The Ford F-150 Lightning has been crowned the 2023 Motor Trend truck of the year, and it's causing quite a stir. This electric truck is on a mission to drag truck owners kicking and screaming into the electric future. With 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque, it's no slouch in the power department. And get this, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. That's quicker than a startled gazelle.

Now, the design of the Lightning may not be as wild and futuristic as its competitors, but that's actually a smart move by Ford. They've played it safe and made it look just like a traditional F-150, which has been the best-selling vehicle in America for over four decades. But don't let its conservative appearance fool you, this truck means business.

On the other hand, we have the GMC Hummer EV, and boy, is it a sight to behold. It's like a Hummer that's been mixed with a Lamborghini and a moon buggy. It's ludicrous, it's over-the-top, and I absolutely love it. The design team at Hummer held nothing back, and it shows. From the pointlessly oversized tow hooks to the two American flags proudly displayed, this truck screams "look at me!"

When it comes to the interiors, the Lightning falls a bit short. The screen layout is reminiscent of the Mustang Mach E, but they've done away with physical controls for temperature and fan speed. It's a bit fiddly and not very well thought out. On the other hand, the Hummer's interior is a step up in terms of quality. It has physical controls for almost everything, and the futuristic military-inspired design is a breath of fresh air.

Now, let's talk about performance. The Lightning may not have the best ride quality, especially compared to its competitors with air suspension. But where it really shines is off-road. This truck is a game-changer. It effortlessly tackles even the most severe terrain, and with its locking differential and off-road mode, there's virtually nothing that can stop it. And let's not forget about its turning radius and crab walk feature. It can practically turn on a dime and shimmy its way out of tight spots.

So, which one should you choose? Well, for most people, the Lightning is a fantastic electric pickup truck that can do everything a regular one can do, but with added efficiency and power. However, if you're looking for something truly extraordinary, the Hummer EV is the way to go. It offers unmatched off-road capability and a design that demands attention. It may be a bit ludicrous and over-the-top, but sometimes, that's exactly what you need to stand out from the crowd.
