In this thrilling episode of The Fast Lane Car, the team takes us on a wild ride through the forbidden fruit of the off-road world. They're in Tokyo, surrounded by some of the most capable four-wheel drives that us Americans can only dream of. First up is the Suzuki Jimny, a compact beast that's like a baby Wrangler. With its ladder frame, solid axles, and true four-wheel drive system, it's a pint-sized off-roader that's just begging to conquer the trails. It may not have a lot of power with its 1.5L engine, but it's got skid plates, recovery points, and the cutest 15-inch wheels you've ever seen. The guys are drooling over the possibilities of throwing in a winch, a big bullbar, and some gnarly tires. Suzuki, please bring this gem to the States!
Next, they stumble upon the Mitsubishi Delica Mini, a van that defies expectations. Despite its small size, it's got an actual all-wheel drive system and an ingenious use of space. Inside, it's like a TARDIS, with reclining chairs and more legroom than you can shake a stick at. This K-car is a hybrid with 60 horsepower, but don't let that fool you. It can still hit 75-80 mph comfortably. The team is smitten with its rugged charm and wishes Mitsubishi would bring it to the US. They even dare to sit in it, much to the disapproval of the locals.
But wait, there's more! Mitsubishi also presents the full-size Delica, decked out in a rally art livery and ready to take on any terrain. With its knobby Yokohama Landers tires, lift kit, and roof rack with a spare tire, it's a true off-road warrior. Inside, it's all about comfort and style, with plush captain's chairs and a furry carpet. The team can't help but imagine the possibilities of this capable van in the American market.
Last but not least, they stumble upon the Toyota EPU concept truck, a futuristic and electrifying vision of the future. This unibody truck, designed in California, combines the best of a Rivan and a Santa Cruz. With its Yolk-style steering wheel and sleek design, it's a head-turner. Although they can't stay long, the team is excited about the potential of this fully electric truck hitting the production line.
As they wrap up their adventure, the team can't help but dream of a world where these incredible off-roaders are available in the US. They've broken some rules, faced disapproving glances, but their passion for these forbidden fruits remains unwavering. So, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, and Toyota, if you're listening, bring these off-road wonders to America, and the team at The Fast Lane Car will be the first in line to buy them.
