Today on the MotorTrend Channel, we delve into the world of three-row midsize SUVs with the introduction of the all-new Lexus TX. This beast, based on the Toyota Grand Highlander, offers a range of powertrains including the 350 luxury all-wheel drive, the 500h fport performance luxury all-wheel drive, and the mighty 550h plus luxury all-wheel drive. With its conservative yet elegant design and options for 20-inch or 22-inch wheels, the TX certainly aims to make a statement in the crowded SUV market.
Inside the TX, you're greeted with a spacious cabin featuring touchscreen climate controls, wireless charging, and captain's chairs in the second row for that added touch of luxury. The third row, although a bit snug with only two seats, offers decent headroom and storage options, including a clever removable tray for snacks - a true game-changer for SUV enthusiasts. The trunk space is surprisingly generous, complemented by an automatic third-row lowering mechanism for added convenience.
When it comes to hitting the road, the driving experiences across the different TX models vary. The 350 feels comfortable but lacks that oomph, while the 500h steps up the game with better performance and handling. However, it's the 550h plus that steals the show with its plug-in hybrid option, boasting 404 horsepower and 33 miles of all-electric driving capability. Despite being the priciest and heaviest of the bunch, the 550h plus wins hearts for its luxurious feel and practicality, making it a top contender in the world of midsize SUVs.
