In a chance encounter, Hagerty crossed paths with the mastermind behind an off-road S14, Jake Odono. Initially not ready for its close-up, the pre-runner S chassis emerged from the paint shop six months later, flaunting a deceptive exterior. Jake didn't just talk the talk; he took Hagerty through whoops and jumps, showcasing the beast's true capabilities. The turbocharged S chassis roared like a jet, a cacophony emanating from where your feet rest. Jake's fabrication skills shone through as he salvaged and transformed the S chassis with a mix of S14 and S15 parts, even incorporating a Ford Ranger flare for that extra oomph.
The off-road marvel, weighing in at 4,000 pounds, boasts a Camberg rear end, Wilwood brakes, and a unique tube chassis design. Jake's craftsmanship evolved throughout the build, evident in the weld quality that improved progressively. The vehicle's functionality extends beyond the surface, featuring a transmission cooler setup, a custom trunk for storage, and a fire suppression system in the works. Wide Open Customs played a crucial role in bringing Jake's vision to life, assisting in building the I beam setup, steering, and rear trailing arms. The steering system, a custom double swing setup, utilizes an old Bronco power steering box, adding a touch of ingenuity to the off-road beast.
