Welcome back to DailyDrivenExotics, where the team is hard at work on their Ferrari F12 project. In this episode, they dive into the heart of the car: the engine. And when it comes to a Ferrari, the sound is everything. They're on a mission to create an absolutely insane header and exhaust system that will not only deliver mind-blowing power but also that signature Ferrari roar.
To achieve this, they've come up with a genius plan. They're using plastic snap-together Legos as a template to design their headers. Yes, you heard that right. Plastic blocks are going to guide the creation of a masterpiece. By arranging the Legos in various configurations, they can determine the perfect routing and length for each tube, ensuring equal flow and that all-important symphony of sound.
But it's not just about the sound. The team is also focused on performance. They're building a twin-turbo setup with EFR 8472 turbos from BorgWarner, aiming for a mind-boggling 1,500 horsepower at the wheels. And to fuel this beast, they're planning to run ethanol, specifically E98. They discuss the challenges of sourcing expensive Ferrari parts and the cost-saving measures they've taken, such as custom rods and pistons.
In addition to the engine work, they delve into the wiring and sensor details. They want the wiring harness to be clean and tucked away, almost invisible. They discuss using the same sensor for multiple applications to simplify their spare parts inventory. They also explore the importance of selecting the right size injectors to ensure adequate fuel flow without putting excessive strain on the fuel pumps.
With their goals set and the plan in motion, the team is determined to have this Ferrari F12 up and running by January. They're excited to put their creation to the test and see how it performs on the track. Stay tuned for more updates on this epic project.
