In a quest to debunk the myth surrounding V8 engines and fuel economy, the team takes the 500-horsepower Mustang GT on a daring journey through the picturesque mountains of Crested Butte, Colorado. This beast of a car, equipped with a 5.0L V8 engine, promises both power and efficiency, challenging the notion that big engines guzzle fuel. Filling up with 87 fuel, they set off on a highway drive, eager to put the Mustang's capabilities to the test.
Despite its impressive power output, the Mustang GT proves to be a comfortable road trip companion, offering ample storage space and a smooth driving experience. However, as they push the car to its limits, they notice some drawbacks such as stability issues at high speeds, a plasticky interior, and noticeable road noise. Yet, the symphony produced by the V8 engine is music to their ears, adding to the overall driving experience.
After a day of motorcycle adventures, the team heads back to Boulder, closely monitoring the fuel consumption of the Mustang. Surpassing expectations, the car covers an impressive 454 miles on a single tank, showcasing its efficiency even in challenging mountainous terrains. The final calculations reveal a remarkable fuel economy of over 30 MPG, proving that the V8 engine can deliver both power and efficiency when put to the test.
