In his latest review, Doug DeMuro takes on the 2025 Toyota 4Runner, a vehicle that has undergone a significant redesign. The new model offers a choice between two turbocharged four-cylinder engines, with the hybrid version packing a punch with increased torque. However, with these upgrades comes a price hike across the lineup, including a substantial increase for the top TRD Pro trim, now starting at a hefty $68,000. Toyota introduces a new off-road trim, the Trail Hunter, aimed at catering to overlanding enthusiasts with unique features like a snorkel and roof rack.
Inside the 4Runner, the Trail Hunter stands out with its yellow accents, setting it apart from the signature red of the TRD Pro. The interior has been completely overhauled, featuring a large, high-resolution infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While the digital gauge cluster offers various styles, customization options are somewhat limited. The adaptive cruise control system has been vastly improved, now capable of full-speed operation and featuring steering assist for a more refined driving experience.
Despite the tech upgrades, the 4Runner maintains its rugged, truck-like feel with durable materials and a blocky design. Off-roading enthusiasts will appreciate features like a disconnecting stabilizer bar and locking differential, enhancing the vehicle's capabilities off the pavement. The interior design reflects the 4Runner's tough aesthetic, from square cup holders to a manual gear selector, appealing to those seeking a robust and capable vehicle for their off-road adventures.
