Larry Chen, the man behind the Toyotires Treadpass event at SEMA, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This event has become a rite of passage for tuners, showcasing their incredible builds. Larry is humbled by the honor of having these talented builders want to be a part of Treadpass. But this year, Larry decided to do something different. He brought his own car, a 1986 Mercedes 190e Cossie, to the event.
Now, Larry has a love affair with cars from this era. Just like his previous BMW E30 M3, the 190e is a symbol of the rivalry between Mercedes and BMW in the DTM. Larry couldn't resist the opportunity to have both of these iconic rivals in his collection. But let me tell you, building this car was no walk in the park. It took a lot of time and effort to source the rare parts needed to bring this beauty to life.
The exterior of the 190e is simply stunning. The evo1 kit, sourced from a UK Motorsports team, gives it that aggressive, yet regal look. The custom-designed wheels, inspired by 80s classics, add a modern touch. And let's not forget about the vibrant green paint, which looks black in certain lights. It's a color that demands attention and suits the car perfectly.
Inside, the attention to detail is impeccable. The reupholstered seats, done by Ricaro, match the back seats perfectly. The green Penta material adds a touch of nostalgia, while the quilted pattern gives it a luxurious feel. The interior is a blend of old and new, with a Momo steering wheel from 1987 and custom-made pedals. Every aspect of the interior has been carefully thought out and executed.
Larry's plans for the 190e are simple: enjoy it. He wants to drive it more than his BMW E30 M3 and create content with both cars. He wants to keep the spirit of the golden era alive and make sure these cars continue to be appreciated. And who knows, maybe there's another car from that era that will join his collection in the future. Larry Chen is a man who truly understands and appreciates the beauty of these classic cars.
